Welcome to
our Green Building Training Resource Center
As we look to government and the private sector to create green jobs and a sustainable energy future,
the development community must work together to ensure that our voice is strong and united! In the spirit of collaboration,
regionalintel has decided to make our comprehensive green skills training curriculum open to the public.
This 16-week workforce training curriculum was originally developed for the
Institute for Latino Progress (aka the "Instituto"), and funded by a major grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
It addresses the needs of lower-skilled professionals looking to sharpen those core basic skills that will make them employable
in today's competitive green building job market. Essentially, this is an adult education program built around topics of sustainability
and green building. As participants go through the program they learn about the world of green building while improving their
reading comprehension, applied math, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Likewise, the curriculum incorporates prep material for the COMPASS basic skills assessment test, and training
material for the LEED Green Associate accreditation. We developed the curriculum in close collaboration with Wilbur Wright
College in Chicago, as a bridge and career pathway into their highly-acclaimed Building Energy Technology certification program.
In its first year of operation, the Instituto graduated over 70 students from the bridge course and enrolled them into the
BET program at Wright College.
We also want you to share
in our successes. If you are a workforce training institution, we strongly encourage you to collaborate with your community
colleges to see if similar programs can be established in your area. The great thing is is that you already have the full
curriculum and lesson plans to make it a reality! Hey, but don't take our word for it...
